“After completing their contract for longtime major label Geffen Records with the release of 2006’s Rather Ripped, the group will release their next record on an indie label, Thurston Moore tells Rolling Stone. “There’s one label we are certainly going to go with at this point,” he says. “But I don’t think I’m allowed to disclose that right now. I don’t want to risk having a shit storm.”

Q: What label do you think he’s talking about? My guess is that he’s talking about Matador. They have a relationship with Gerard Cosloy going back a loooong time, and Matador — being the New York Yankees of indie rock — have a lot of experience and success working with blue-chip indie acts. Still, I would not rule out Merge or Sub Pop, both of whom could do very well by them.

My guess is Goner Records in Memphis.  Quintron & Miss Pussycat knew what they were doing when they signed to Goner.
